Waiting for the Job Creators

Does conclusion of the debt ceiling debate mean that the "job creators" can now do what they allegedly had been prevented from doing? Or, as is more likely, will Republicans claim that until they get everything they want the "job creators" will remain handicapped? And, to insure this result, they will continue undermining Obama.

Most jobs are created because of demands for goods and services whether from the private sector or the government. The recent halt in funding of the FAA illustrates the applicability of this common-sense observation to both the private and public sector. Thousands of FAA employees were furloughed and an estimated 70,000 contracted private sector were stopped. The result: not only fewer dollars flowing through the economy because of lost wages and diminished spending but a loss of over $1billion in taxes not collected.

American consumers are the true job creators. Growing businesses result from demand. Taking money from millions of average Americans reduces their ability to spend. During the debt ceiling debate at least two corporations had more cash than the federal government. The wealthy are buying more luxury goods (Coaches, for example, recently announced a growth in sales) while millions of Americans will have less to spend on basics. Maybe the Wal-Marts of this country will whisper in the ears of the Republicans - "psst we don't sell Prada and Coach products". Henry Ford, a proud capitalist, once explained why he paid higher wages: "because I want my employees to be customers".
