The Tea Party Downgrade

     Incredibly, a lawmaker entrusted with governing and solving our country's problems indicated he is willing to destroy our country.  Rep. Jason Chaffitz (R - Utah), one of the extremist tea party right-wingers, said proudly: "We weren't kidding around, either.  We would have taken it down."  By "it" he means our economy and country, along with our standing around the world.  By "we" he means GOP tea party anarchists, including Andy Harris.

     Tea partiers bear full responsibility for creating the debt ceiling "crisis" and Standard & Poor's downgrading of our credit rating from AAA for the first time in our nation's history.  They held our debt ceiling (and country) hostage to their demands for insane levels of spending cuts while opposing any revenue increases, even the extremely popular ones for deadbeat billionaires and corporations who pay little-to-no taxes.

     President Obama showed outstanding leadership by listening to S&P's warnings to cut at least $4 trillion from our debt and proposing such a deal with his "Grand Bargain," which included some entitlement cuts and revenue increases.  He and House Speaker John Boehner (R - OH) reached agreement on the deal, which was immediately scuttled by these same tea party extremists, who opposed the revenue increases.

     Failure to cut at least $4 trillion from our debt and refusal to consider any revenue increases were cited by S&P as reasons for the downgrade.  S&P threatens further downgrades if the intransigence continues.

     Tea partiers are intent on further hostage taking and destructiveness.  We need to stop them.
