Tearful issue of the paper

What an inspiring,  heartwarming story in the Oct. 26 front page of the Star Democrat!  A young mother donated her kidney to an unknown recipient and in turn her father received some other unknown person's life saving kidney.  This is so moving.  Imagine,  giving,  not of money but of your own body to help another person,  rich or poor,  of whatever ethnic or religious background.  This says so much about what it means to be a caring human being.   It makes me think,  "What can I do to help someone in desperate need of a kind,  deeply compassionate act of love of neighbor?"  Thanks for that story.

How sad is the opposite message the same day on page A8 where a cartoon mocks a retired couple living in poverty.  How desperate is the message of what so many people living in a slum (urban or rural) do with their desperately thin funds,  talk with the accents of those who did not have the blessing of a fine education and may find someone,  anyone,   to blame at the end of a tragic existence.  Is this just a sad sick joke?

We readers weep twice reading this issue of the Star Democrat for opposite reasons.
