Prisons or Schools?

June 20, 2011 at 12:21 PM

At this point America is No. 1 in percentage of population imprisoned – let’s keep it that way. One of every 98 people in this country is incarcerated; 1 out of 9 African American males is in prison. Our
budget for prisons is over 17 billion dollars per year – a much better investment than education.
But wait! That would mean that almost everyone would be in jail – who would pay for that expense? And for all the other things that we want the government to take care of?
Guess we should INVEST in the education of our youth after all. It is the best investment that a community can make. I would pay more taxes, if the money was dedicated to the schools. If we want to have a better future – you have to invest now – in our youth, in our schools, in our community.
